GREETINGS
Kirishima Shuzo Co., Ltd. is an authentic shochu manufacturer founded in 1916 and headquartered in Miyakonojo City, Miyazaki Prefecture. Its main product is “Kurokirishima,” made from 100% Kyushu-grown sweet potatoes, 100% groundwater from the Miyakonojo Basin, 100% domestically grown koji rice, and 100% produced at its own factory in Miyakonojo City, thus respecting the region and nature.

KUROKIRISIMA
The first shochu liqueur was brewed with black malted rice and released by Kichisuke Enatsu, the founder of Kirishima Shuzo, in 1916. Kurokirishima, an authentic sweetpotato shochu that inherits the roots of the black malted rice distillation process used at the time of its founding, is characterized by its rich sweetness and crisp finish. It is a perfect complement to Japanese, Western, Chinese, ethnic, and other delicious dishes, regardless of genre.

By Toji and staff
Kirishima Shuzo's shochu production is supported by approximately 1,200 sweet potato farmers in Kyushu. To ensure the quality of sweet potatoes, we actively exchange information with farmers and are committed to preventing the spread of sweet potato black rot and supporting farmers. In September 2023, we opened the "Imo Terrace" sweet potato seedling production center, where we cultivate healthy sweet potato seedlings by cutting and culturing virus-free stem tips. We also conduct research and development on sweet potatoes, and in July 2024, we launched "KIRISHIMA No.8," a shochu made with our proprietary "Kirishima 8" sweet potato, which offers a fresh fruity taste reminiscent of muscat grapes and mandarin oranges. Furthermore, Kirishima Shuzo is committed to sustainable shochu production. We recycle shochu lees and sweet potato waste to generate biogas and electricity, and we are accelerating our efforts to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions at our factories and offices by 2030.
